Because many of us are scared to death from the idea of adding as a default a "feature" which could break millions of lines of existing code, degrade performance, and create incredible debugging headaches, without bringing any benefit to the overwhelming majority of users.
IMO, it's very unlikely that this feature will be accepted in FPC in a form that breaks existing code. FPC has always been very strict about keeping backward compatibility. New features are almost always added in a way that don't break existing code.
