I'm not so sure about the porting being faster - I can imagine that big parts of the functionality rely on the underlying OS API rather than RTL which would be (at least partly) compatible to what we have today, so porting would probably require not only knowledge of the 68k assembler (to rewrite those assembler routines), but also a detailed knowledge of the MacOS API to understand what is done there and why (and how to port it to some other platform).
