as a matter of fact, when you use the binutils and ld etc, you aren't
exactly using a full pascal toolchain either, no?

Of course I do. My desktops run all windows and fpc for win32/win64 has no need of as or ld (guess why ;)). fpc contains an assembler and linker for win32/win64. Actually, fpc even supported win64 before binutils for it were available due to this.
