Ssme here. To me, it's not a welcome screen, it's a marketing ploy to
advertise stuff, not far from SPAM (check the menu under Adobe), and it goes
away only when I open an FM file. And when I close the file, the darn thing
comes back again. Maybe it's okay for beginners who have no idea how to use
FM, but how may beginners are there? The screen is not helpful to me at
all. How do you turn it OFF? I do not see anything in the .ini file.

I also do not like the fact that FM9 opens a book file on the left side of
the FM window and its huge and docked. The last thing I need is to have a
book file take up 1/3 of the screen. It's also VERY annoying to have to
shrink it and move it every time I open it. This is a total waste of my
time. The book file needs to return to the screen in whatever size and
position it is saved in, just like FM8 and previous versions. They have made
FM considerably less productive by forcing somebody's idea of "pretty" on
everyone.

Subject: FrameMaker 9 Welcome Screen

I've just recently loaded TCS 2 and gotten a good look at FM9. I really
like the new interface, even though it is different. I especially like
the ability to customize it and save workspace versions. However, I've
found the Welcome Screen to be *really* annoying. Usually, welcome
screens disappear once an app is running, but this thing remains. I
realize it offers some shortcuts (and a lot of Adobe marketing links),
but I can get those from my menus, just like any other Adobe
application. I wonder why Adobe did this with Framemaker, when none of
their other applications behave this way. Does anyone else dislike the
welcome screen?
