Before I go installing the SetPrint utility, I have a couple of questions: - Can I imitate this utility by going to File > Print Setup and choosing Adobe PDF as the printer? Is this saved for FrameMaker in general, or for the book that I have open?

Try installing SetPrint, a free utility from Sundorne: http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm It lets you specify a different default printer for Frame than the one you have as the system default, and should prevent this problem by keeping the printer selection in Frame fixed, preferably at Adobe PDF. While you are there, check out Ian's other three new free Frame utilities.
