It would be helpful if you'd provide more system info: your OS(s), what version(s) of Adobe Distiller (full version of Acrobat, the limited version that ships with Frame; something else, and versions), RAM, verify that temp free space is adequate, and so on.
Also... if you're using Print to File from Frame and specifying the Adobe PDF printer (as you should), distiller would normally create the PS file and distill it automatically. Your procedure sounds as if you're checking "Print To File" to force a manual two-step process... which usually isn't needed. Bottom line to check first would be whether the Adobe PDF printer is set as your system default printer. You can do it at the system level or with a SetPrint script from http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm that only affects Frame. And yes, of course a H-P Universal PS driver is likely to cause problems. H-P used to only do PS emulation (nothing but problems), then then licensed Adobe drivers and shipped them for years.
