THE STEPS I DID TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM:
• Click in the document
• Find panel → Select find Character Format
• Press Shift + F8 key to make it "As Is"
• Select "Language=None"
• In Change → Select Character Format
• Press Shift + F8 key to make it "As Is"
• Select "Language=US English"
• Click "Change All"
• Spell Check again, Spell Checker should find the misspelled word.


Well, darn. I thought I'd try that procedure, just to see if I had any character formats set to language of None that I might want to change. Unfortunately, FM9 finds _everything in the document_ when I set the language to None. It skips around the document finding blocks as short as one line or as long as several pages, until it has found everything in the document.

It seems that something else is very wrong.
