Silicon Prairie's Master Page tool will solve all these heartaches. You can specify how you want your Master Page settings once in a MasterPage.fm file and then use paragraph tags and/or markers to apply all master pages in a single step - no need to go through page by page. Especially I find that when I apply a master page that changes the layout from portrait to landscape or vice-versa, I have to keep re-selecting pages that missed the conversion because the layout caused repagination.
