It was originally used to help with S1000D support where everything uses the same doctype of 'dmodule'. I can't find any mention of it in the maker.ini guide which was where it is configured if I remember correctly... Nothing in the struct app developer's guides either. I'll keep looking. For the Adobe S1000D applications it was handled using ExtendScript where the selected XML file was opened silently using the built-in E4X support in ES and the relevant structural clues used to determine the correct Structured Application to use.
