Take a look at my TextFormatter script. You will have to set up a character format for each of the colors you want to apply. You fill in a table with your word/character format pairs and you can specify any paragraph formats that you want to skip. Actually, in your case, it may be better to specify the paragraph formats that you want to process. If you are interested, I may be able to add this as an enhancement.
