OK, I'm not certain I'm following you entirely. When I open my PDF files in
Acrobat and right click on a TOC entry, I am given the option to edit the
link. If I select Edit Link, the Link Properties window is shown. By
default, the Link Type on the Appearance tab is set to Invisible Rectangle.
If you change it to Visible Rectangle, you can see the bounding box, but
that isn't necessary to edit the link.

If you click on Actions, you can delete the current link in the Actions box
and add a different link using the Add an Action, which is what it sounds
like you're trying to do?
