Hi all
Re: Working Out-of-the-box WebDAV
PLIP 187 <http://plone.org/products/plone/roadmap/187>
Partially for my own benefit: an update, and a question.
Neither <http://plone.org/products/plone/roadmap/> nor <http://dev.plone.org/old/plone/report/24

Bundle review <http://dev.plone.org/old/plone/ticket/7732> was closed
in relation to Plone 3.1. We'll need a comparable ticket in relation
to the Team's preferred milestone.
I'm aware of Sidnei's move to Canonical Ltd. <http://www.linkedin.com/in/sidnei

as much as I can.
Motivations for me include OpenOffice.org 3.1 RC1 (and previously OOo-
dev) improved compatibility with WebDAV.†
A question for FWT:
* instinctively, where/when on Plone roadmap do you envisage PLIP 187?
I'll be in <irc://irc.freenode.net/#plone> as often as I can, if
anyone would like to kick the ball around.

At the moment, it clearly suggests that the OSX behavior was
specifically targeted.
I will leave that up to Sidnei. Having a working WebDAV is a big
change. We have been working on the problem for over 3 years. I
would suggest that sidnei/framework team focus on a platform
agnostic dav client on the first go around. If you focus on having
every platform supported fully - it may or may not happen.
I will let sidnei answer for himself.

FWIW my gut feelings are that a platform agnostic (Plone service-
oriented) client:
a) may be unexpectedly difficult to realise;
and:
b) of greater concern, may detract from the underlying proposal/wish
to have Plone *server* 'play well' (as we used to say) with others.
Just to be clear, even though this issue is important to me, I'm
agnostic about whether this particular PLIP *should* include OSX
webdav fixes.
But regardless, I think we can agree that it is very important that
PLIPs accurately reflect what is actually being proposed before they
become part of the public release documentation.

There's also e.g. <http://dev.plone.org/old/plone/ticket/8592> 'Remove
external editor support' to consider.

† As Microsoft Office 2008 continues to fail with WebDAV, OOo 3.1.x is
a most welcome improvement.
