response to cah190 on equality testing:
You are right that the __eq__ method is inadequate at the moment. It is
meant to support multiple ways of checking if two objects are the same. i
just don't know the uuid behavior. Can it be read as a property directly
from an object? are they indexed? If not, we should perhaps revert to the
path being the universal identifier, until we have a unififed unique id
system?
