Hi all,

I’ve written a couple of times already to the Chicago Film Festival people
(emails listed on their contact page https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/about/
)and the Chicago Public Library without luck, so I thought I would try the
larger list.

I’m doing a couple of programs of films by Yoko Ono in conjunction with a
museum exhibition of her work at The Broad in Los Angeles.

Two films by Ono and John Lennon, Two Virgins and No. 5 (Smile) had their world
premiere at the 4th Chicago festival in 1968. In David Sher’s biography Yoko,
page 82. “The films were screened at the Chicago International Film Festival.
[November 14, 1968.] The audience was asked to bring musical instruments.
Half the audience walked out, but the rest remained, playing flutes and banging
on tambourines.”

[No. 5 (Smile) is a 52-minute film of John Lennon smiling slowed down after
being filmed with a high speed camera, so almost nothing happens in the film.]

On eBay are copies of the 4th festival program for sale that show the table of
contents, but not every page. That screening was described on page 18.

I was wondering if anyone has a copy of that program and could send an image of
the page to see what it did say. Also wondering if that story about the musical
instruments is true. I’m debating including the same invitation. The show is
July 26.  If you are in Los Angeles, hope you might check it out!

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
