I sent this to the people on my mailing list today. Now I am posting it
to FrameWorks.

I’m honored to be able to announce that the New York Film Festival
<https://www.filmlinc.org/nyff/> is presenting the premiere of my film
/Suicide Note <https://www.fredcamper.com/F/SN.html> /(1976-84, super-8
restored to 16mm, silent, c. 93 minutes) in two different small theaters
at Lincoln Center, most likely in early October. I will send a follow-up
in about two weeks, when the dates have been fixed. I will be present
for the first two of the three shows.
I want to call this the world premiere, because though a few decades ago
there were three public showings of the film under the title /SN/, which
was never intended to be the official title, these were of the edited
original and edited work print in super-8, with splices visible, which
was not the original intention, and usually with longer breaks between
the twelve different reels than had been intended. Follow the link to
the film’s title above for much more information.
It will also be shown at the Film Studies Center at the University of
Chicago on November 20. Showings in other locales seem possible.
The link above contains stills; several minutes of film excerpts;
comments by Patrick Friel and Brian Frye, the curators who gave the film
its first two shows a few decades ago; and extensive information and
comments by me.
Thanks to Kyle Westphal of the Chicago Film Society for spending two
years on this restoration. It was a complicated and demanding project.
Their choice of 16mm was the only one that made sense; among other
issues, super-8 projection has never been very practical for public
screenings, and grows increasingly less so today. They are also
responsible for securing these showings, as well as for restoring and
securing showings for my five earliest films
<https://www.chicagofilmsociety.org/preservation/fred-camper/> in 2023 ,
all 16mm, made between 1967 and 1969, when I was 19 to 21.

I’d like to schedule a second Zoom call analyzing Fritz Lang’s great
film /M/ (1931); we did one a few months ago. This will be for anyone
who didn’t know about the first or could not attend. I’m glad to do it
for a very small number of people, say at least five. Noon Chicago time
seems to be the best time for such calls: too late for some but not all
in East Asia, but OK for the Western Hemisphere and Europe. If you are
interested in attending, let me know, and send any date preferences as
soon as possible:
Saturday, August 29
Sunday, August 30
Saturday, September 5
Sunday, September 6
Do also invite anyone else you think might be interested. To attend,
each person must send me an email once the date is set, in order to
receive the Zoom link.

I have recently completed /Interactions 36: Bridges/
<https://www.fredcamper.com/A/Interactions/036/index.html>. My fifty
previous 4K films have been between one minute and 15 minutes. This one
is 74 minutes. The link has much more information, and the first three
minutes. Unlike my previous digital films, which are all online, my plan
is to withhold this one from public release in the hope of first getting
some public showings. All this work looks a lot better in 4K
(ultra-high-definition) projection on a large screen.
