BALAGAN, the long running avant-garde film series based out of Boston, has just
finished a very successful 2011 programming season, thanks to all those who
repeatedly came out to support it and watch some great films. We are now
looking forward with excitement to the coming year and all the fantastic films
we are planning to bring to the Brattle. These include:
Expanded cinema works by Daïchi Saïto from Montreal. (Still from

Meditative documentary works by the Belarus-born director Sergei Loznitsa.

The little seen work of Czech filmmaker and animator Karel Zeman. (Still from

But
the excitement is, of course, accompanied by the realization that these
expensive projects are a big financial challenge for a not-for-profit,
volunteer-driven series like Balagan.
So, we have launched a Kickstarter campaign!!
Kickstarter is an online tool that allows your supporters to pledge
donations to your campaign using an easily-created online account. The
donations only go through if we meet our goal by the designated
deadline.
We have set a goal to raise $3,000 by 7:43pm on January 12th, 2012.
This amount is necessary to offset the costs of the filmmakers' travel
expenses, accommodation and honoraria, as well as the rental and
shipment of rare film prints from overseas.
The clock is now ticking.
To sweeten the deal, we are offering passes to our screenings. If
you were already planning to check out the shows, the donation will pay
for itself. We are also offering prizes courtesy of a
few very generous organizations and individuals. You can see all the
