Chocolate Cherry cookies

8 squares (1-ounce) semisweet chocolate
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet chocolat morsels
1 cup dried cherries -- chopped
1 cup slivered almonds

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, combine chocolate squares and butter. Microwave on High in 
30-second intervals, stirring between each until chocolate is melted and smooth 
(about 2 minutes total). Let cool.

In a large bowl, beat sugar, eggs, vanilla, and almond extract at medium speed 
with an electric mixer until fluffy. Slowly beat in chocolate mixture until 
combined.

In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to sugar 
mixture, heating until well combined. Beat in chocolate morsels, cherries and 
almonds.

Drop cookies by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Bake 
for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges of cookies are lightly browned. let cool on 
pan for 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely
