            Bug ID: 288900
           Summary: loader.efi: System won't boot without kvm or
                    console=comconsole in loader.conf
           Product: Base System
           Version: 13.5-RELEASE
          Hardware: amd64
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: kern
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

On Hetzner AX102 hosts (Ryzen based), only EFI boot is supported.

With a console connected (kvm) the systems boot just fine. With the console
removed, they (presumably, since it cannot be perceived) get stuck in the boot
loader or end up in a reboot loop (after a while the system shuts down).

This can be worked around by setting:

    console="comconsole"

in /boot/loader.conf.

Other settings do not work (e.g., console="comconsole,efi" will get stuck as
well).

The downside of the workaround is that there is no console output during boot,
even if a kvm is connected.

While experimenting with this, I read the loader code and noticed that the
loader.conf(5) man page doe not distinguish between various loaders. It appears
that many settings are not supported in loader.efi (inclusing some of the
settings for console).
