After applying the apparent fix from the D52600, I see slight progress: zzz(8)
is not ignored, but leads to a panic, as shutdown, reboot and halt -p do. 

I am attaching the backtrace from the nice panic that occurred after the "halt
-p" command was issued (with D52600) applied.
This is quite unfortunate, as it affects one of the few desktop computers that
handled ACPI suspend correctly and could reliably resume without issues. My old
HP ProLiant DL360 G7 still powers off fine after these changes, so the scope of
damage seems to be limited.
