Really, the whole Xorg installation section needs a rewrite. I
have an outline for that, but not the motivation.
I'd like to see that happen as well, mainly because of my dislike of
the extra HAL dependency. Warren, maybe we can work on this on
Phabricator? If you can provide your outline we can get it moving
towards a handbook patch sooner. Maybe involving the ports people as
well is also helpful because they should know what needs to be in
there (dependency-wise) and what not.
The quick start (which is widely ignored) does have instructions which
work with the new no-HAL default.
It's been a couple of months since I last worked on the outline, but
maybe there is a way we can get people to help with it.
