Those are the people I not just dislike, but also completely
ignore.

Indeed. And it may be a good idea to direct the advocacy
towards these people and not towards the "weenies" ... and
to keep it in a tone that doesn't scare these people away
like the weenies do ;)
I remember a talk about FreeBSD a few weeks ago on
irc.uninet.edu that did nothing but leave the people who
attended the talk behind with the idea of "if THAT's the
way the BSD people usually act, I'll just stick with my
Linux, thank you".
This is, IMHO, a big shame because chances are quite a few
of those people present would have actually liked BSD better
than Linux (everybody's tastes are different, so IMHO it would
be good to let everybody try out the different free Unices and
have everybody use the Unix of their taste)...
