Crap.  Thanks for the info.

Have you manually calculated the checksum on a bad packet to see
how it's off?

PS: Is it -0 (0xFFFF)?  Maybe they didn't use RFC 1936; maybe they
used RFC 1141, which has a bug (RFC 1624 corrects the one's complement
error of RFC 1141).
