well it can't establish TCP connection or its very slow to connect this isn't usually the case but I can connect to other ftp sites ok i'm using ncftp3.

Your client cannot establish a TCP connection to the FTP site, or it does not receive the ProFTPD headers, or it cannot log in as anonymous, or it logs in and then the server terminates the connection with some message/explanation, or...?
