Your right. We do not have enough of her code. I tried this:
#include <stdio.h>
unsigned char Receiver = 0;
int main(void)
{
Receiver = 0x00;

}
compiled it with:
gcc -W -Wall -ansi -pedantic -Wbad-function-cast -Wcast-align \
-Wcast-qual -Wchar-subscripts -Winline \
-Wmissing-prototypes -Wnested-externs -Wpointer-arith \
-Wredundant-decls -Wshadow -Wstrict-prototypes zz.c -o zz
and no warnings....
