I'd like to bootstrap a FreeBSD 5.4 install from GRUB or another harddrive-based bootloader without using PXEboot.
Problem: GRUB will boot the FreeBSD loader, however I can't get the loader to read a kernel from any of my existing partitions(ext2, reiserfs, fat16). I know it can load a kernel from UFS but I have to have FreeBSD installed to create a UFS partition(catch-22). Is there a way to get a non-pxeboot loader to grab the kernel from a non-UFS filesystem or perhaps the network(NFS or TFTP)? Suggestions?
