I just booted the 6.2-RC1 install CD on the system, and it seems to
work fine. It recognized the SATA controller, the hard drive, and the
network ports, and the outputs from fdisk and disklabel were
correct. I didn't see any signs of problems.

I've been running -current on the system for a week or two without
any problems.
Excellent, thank you. Just to be clear though, it is detected as a HT1000 SATA controller, not a generic one, right?

Right. I've attached the dmesg output for you to look at.

I asked Soeren Schmidt about this message:

ad4: DMA limited to UDMA33, device found non-ATA66 cable

He says it's because the BIOS set up the SATA controller in ATA
compatibility mode. I asked him whether it affects performance, and
he said "not much". He noted that the memory-mapped region does
appear for the SATA controllers, and said that it may be possible to
modify ata-chipset.c slightly to make it use native SATA mode. I
haven't pursued that because (a) I know very little about SATA, and
(b) the hard drive seems to work fine.

John

Thanks again John, I've CC'd the list for others that may find this information useful. Also, i made a mistake, i referred to Scott L, when i meant Soren S, thanks for the work Soren.
