Telnet to port 80 and do an http 1.1 get request for both a site hostname that works and one that doesn't. What do you get as output in each case?
GET / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.hostname.com Also, if nothing is showing up in the logs at all I wouldn't expect it to be php problem, but you might test that too.
