Have you tried the driver supplied by Highpoint as a pre-compiled kernel module? I have a 1820A with 4x400GB Hitachi SATA disks (RAID5 + 1 Hot Spare) in a system running 5.3-RC3/amd64, where I have to use the kernel module, and I get almost double the speed that you have:
-=- % dd if=/dev/da0 of=/dev/null bs=64k count=10000 10000+0 records in 10000+0 records out 655360000 bytes transferred in 7.775190 secs (84288614 bytes/sec)
I'm using fiber channel SATA, and I get 2x write as I do read, which doesn't make sense to me. What kind of write speeds do you get? My tiny brain tells me that reads should be faster than writes with a RAID5.
