Now that I switched from virtio to 82545EM all my networking problems disappeared.
Appart from pf, I had also some other small networking problems that I thought were apache/php related, but were in fact due to virtio. virtio is clearly the culprit, but I can't say if it is FreeBSD or VirtualBox related Guest: FreeBSD 9.2 amd64 Host : FreeBSD 9.2 amd64 VM : VirtualBox 4.2.18 I can provide more information, if you tell me what to look for.
