MacOS X doesn't define __FreeBSD__ either in CPP macros or the system headers:

% touch foo.h; cpp -dM foo.h | grep __FreeBSD__ 
% cpp --version
i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)
