Logging into enlightenment takes a very long time, but it then displays a
message re the source of the problem. What do I need to change to correct
this error?
*MESSAGE:*
"your display server does not support XComposite, or Ecore-X was built
without XComposite support. Note that for composite support, you will also
need XRender and XFixes support x11 and Ecore"

Checking the config status of relevant ports with showconfig-recursive:
===> The following configuration options are available for ecore-evas-1.7.7:
     BUFFER=on: Enable Buffer evas engine
     OPENGL=on: Enable OpenGL evas engine
     SDL=off: Enable SDL evas engine
     X11=on: Enable X11 evas engine
===> The following configuration options are available for ecore-x11-1.7.7:
     XCURSOR=on: Cursor themes support
     XDAMAGE=on: X11 Xdamage extension support
     XDPMS=on: X11 Xdpms extension support
     XFIXES=on: X11 Xfixes extension support
     XINERAMA=on: X11 Xinerama extension support
     XPRINT=on: X11 Xprint extension support
     XRANDR=on: X11 XRandR extension support
     XRENDER=on: X11 Xrender extension support
     XSS=on: X11 Xscrnsaver extension support

Interestingly, showconfig-recursive does not display settings for
devel/ecore as a port dependent:
*ecore-1.7.7,2*
