a new port would be quite nice.
i am pretty clueless about creating or maintaining one though :(

There is a PR for an update, but no work happend on it for long time.

As you can see there was already a try to bring it to a current (and
supported) 1.9.x version, but it failed and the maintainership was
dropped. :/
I could help in creating a new port with magento 2. But i have not this
much time so it will take a while ;)
