You need to check if it builds clean with synth or poudriere; to
ensure that it isn't your build environment that's causing the
failure.


That's a bit too extreme a suggestion for me.

I copied /usr/local/share/libtool/build-aux/ltmain.sh into the work dir
after a 'make extract' and it finished building.

Must be just me.
