It's a well known bug in 4.6-RELEASE: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/4.6.2R/errata.html Considering the ATA problems in 4.6-RELEASE and the unfortunate crop of security vulnerabilities that were discovered just after 4.6 came out, you would be well advised to upgrade to 4.6.2-RELEASE or the upcoming 4.7-RELEASE as soon as possible.
