If you are really interested in C++, I would recommed Stanley Lipman's C++ Primer
as a place to start. Also, for more advanced examples,idioms, etc... I would definitely recommend Scott Meyers books as well as anything by Jim Coplien and Lipmans Inside the C++ Object Model.
