I only have an understanding of AppleTalk from the network perspective. When MAC's boot they aquire a network in the range 65280-65534, and use ZIP GetNetInfo to try & determine the correct network range & zone. For all your machines to learn the same network number you need to set up one of the machines as a seed router, i.e. a with a cable number in the range 1-65279.
