Hello!

I thought I'd ask you all if my make_ports.sh is as convenient as I think
it is, or if it's totally off track or what not:

# cat make_ports.sh

cvsup -g -L 2 /etc/cvsupfile
cd /usr/ports
make fetchindex
portupgrade -raP
portsdb -uU
pkgdb -F
portsclean -CDLP

Personally I broke my updating script into two stages. One updates the ports tree and generates a report on what's out of date (via port_version). The second stage runs a script that was generated by the first stage that actually does the portupgrade. This gives me a chance to review the updates and postpone any major ones (openoffice, KDE) until it's convenient.

As for "portupgrade -raP" I want it to only use packages since my system
is very slow, and recompiling all my ports is not an option. This command,
however, doesn't seem to work at all.

I get a lot of:

** The command returned a non-zero exit status: 1
** Failed to fetch ...

And it ends up compiling my ports instead ...

I truly hope anyone can help.
Thanks!

Which version of FreeBSD are you running? Seems that pre-compiled packages are only available for the latest release (5.4 right now).

Later,
Micah
