compat5x provides 5.x libraries for packages that are built against FreeBSD 5.x If you upgraded from 5.x, you will still have those libraries left behind, and as far as I can see they take priority over the compat5x copies. If security patches are applied to compat5x, you may have to track down the insecure libraries manually, or update packages.
