That doesn't work. FreeBSD-5.3-release does not have current packages. They are dinosaurs the day after they unlock the port system from a release. You have to look for packages in 5-stable/.../Latest. Such as ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-5-stable/Latest/ The package site always lags behind the port system. If you want current applications, you have to cvsup and then build them on your system. You have choices but you have to understand the options.
