I just dealt with a situation that sounds similar. I have an x86 box with a Promise SATA card with 2 drives in a RAID1 that had been running fairly well for several months. Then it suddenly froze up (no reboot, nothing written to the console). After a power cycle the system froze during fsck. In single user mode I was able to get it mounted readonly without fsck, and could read some files, but before too long it would freeze again. I pulled one of the drives and rebooted. Same behavior. Then I pulled that drive and put the other one back. Fsck completed and it now works fine (aside from no mirroring going on anymore of course). Short version: though it sure seems like one of the drives had gone bad, the Promise card didn't notice. It may say the array is "READY" you shouldn't trust it. _______________________________________________ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
