If I were you I'd just wait. Some joker at nvidia has modified nvidia-settings-1.0.tar.gz without renaming it. Sooner or later the port will catch up. If the old version of nvidia-settings still works, why worry. If you are desperate, email the port maintainer. Manually installing software is a bad idea, unless you have no alternative.
