Have you tried to just apply the patch in the bug report and recompile 1.5? If that fixes it send a FreeBSD PR and CC the firefox maintainer so they can add the patch to the port in the mean time. I've started compiling, but your AMD64 system is a lot faster that my old Athlon. :)
