OK, I went through most of the things in that list, and finally
creating a new profile was the only thing that fixed it.

But it is fixed!

That doesn't really fix the issue at hand though. Try closing and reopening X to see if the problem still persists, and don't forget to run firefox -ProfileManager to choose/delete the profile you don't want.
