Hi Michael,
what card have you got?

for example, I can see mine with pciconf -lv :
[...]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:27:0: class=0x040300 card=0x05b71014 chip=0x26688086 rev=0x03
hdr=0x00
    vendor   = 'Intel Corporation'
    device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW Intel High DefiNition Audio Controller'
    class    = multimedia
[...]

(look for 'class = multimedia' or pcm@ device...

Also, after loading the snd modules, what does

cat /dev/sndstat

show? if the drivers has detected your card properly, you should get some
info... For example , I get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] [Wed Feb 21 11:02:46 2007]
/usr/home/betom
$ cat /dev/sndstat
FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm: 64bit)
Installed devices:
pcm0: <Intel 82801F High Definition Audio Controller> at memory 0xb0000000 irq
11 kld snd_hda [20070105_0038] (1p/1r/2v channels duplex default)
