Thats what raised the question I was doing ln -s
/usr/local/modules/fuse.ko /boot/kernel/fuse.ko


And it did not work?

If it worked I had not of asked the question (installkernel nukes it)

So doing
ln -s /usr/local/modules/fuse.ko /boot/modules/fuse.ko
as proposed, should persist throughout kernel updates I assume.
