there are different amount spaces. it could be a problem for them.
Likely he just made a mistake and selected lukeftpd in the inetd.conf file rather than the normal ftpd.

He would also need to select the passive switch in the client, not the server, with whatever radio button it uses.
i don't know what's radio button it is ;) i don't use such clients. others use
