Check out http://www.freebsd.org/platforms/arm.html You'll find more information about FreeBSD on arm there. I'm not sure if it is possible to build FreeBSD on another OS. Why not install FreeBSD on a virtual machine and then do a cross-build, which does work, AFAIK.
