hi, I like xfce4, compact and fast on my netbook. I haven't had issues on FreeBSD 10.0-CURRENT. Thunar is good, have not tried using smb:// etc but I will see what happens and let you know. The WebKit based browser in the project is pretty good too. If you are running FreeBSD on a desktop you might want more apps and features that come with KDE or Gnome.
