I've seen this behaviour also on other systems and OS. Yes. A replacement motherboard would be my next step too. While bad capacitors are a fairly common cause, it can be due to other reasons: a crack in one of the traces or a dry-soldered joint that breaks electrical connection because of the effects of thermal expansion, or even the extra vibration when the fans go to full power or even when there is a lot of disk IO activity.
