It is also generally a very good idea to NOT use the -j switch when installing, particularly "make installworld" (last time i checked)Just a guess: Are that your second CPU isn't idle?

I forgot to mention one thing:
Some apps might not build correctly when using make's -j switch (due to bad makefiles and/or dependency information).
